The Rolex Oysterdate Precision 6694 is one of the most wearable watches on the resale market that the majority of Rolex owners may not have ever heard of. While this watch certainly has an understated look, it’s a classy addition to any collection.
If you’re looking for a watch that allows you to enjoy a Rolex without having an “in-your-face” effect on your friends, co-workers, or family – a vintage Precision is a great option to consider.
The Rolex Oysterdate Precision 6694
Originally produced in the 1960’s with continued production through the 1980’s, the Oysterdate Precision was all about simplicity and functionality as a daily wear. This watch was essentially a predecessor to the more popular Oyster Perpetual as well as the Air King lines.
Dial
One of the most notable characteristics of the Oysterdate Precision is its use of fairly bold dial colors for the time that it was produced. Over the years it was made, the Precision featured several dial color variations of black, blue, silver, and gold.
Movement
The Oysterdate makes use of the non-chronometer, manual wind calibre 1225. For hard core watch enthusiasts, the vintage self-winding Rolex models are highly sought after. Though they aren’t necessarily known for convenience, they are considered highly reliable.
Size
On a first impression, this watch has a much smaller feel at 36mm than current Rolex watches that are being produced at sizes around 40mm.
While many could see this as a disadvantage, we feel that it actually adds to the argument for the Precision as a nice daily wear that won’t garner too much attention from the people around you.
Because of the smaller and thinner profile of the Precision, this watch works well for both men and women.
Price point
Over the years, the Oysterdate Precision has been an excellent choice for entry level collectors or first time Rolex buyers. It goes well with a number of outfits ranging from full casual to business casual. This watch can be easily found for less than $5,000, and tends to hover in the $2,000-$3,000 range depending on the condition.
Overview
The Oysterdate Precision is a great addition for a first time watch collector or as an understated daily wear. It’s manual wind calibre 1225 is a reliable movement, and this watch works well for either men or women.
