The Rolex Cellini is often not considered a “real” Rolex, but it is just as real as the Rolex Explorer or the Rolex Submariner. The difference is that this particular line was designed as the ideal timepiece for those who have an appreciation of true artistry and it is also the first watch that was produced in large quantities that gained chronometric certification.
This Rolex collection was developed in celebration of sculptor and goldsmith Benvenuto Cellini, and although often overlooked and undervalued as part of the Rolex family, once men and women are exposed to the line, they rarely turn back because of the beauty that this line presents.
Rolex Cellini Models and Reference Numbers
There are several models that the Rolex Cellini line has and each model has its own reference numbers, so I will tell you about each model and then give you the reference numbers for reference! ☺
The Rolex Prince is rectangular in shape and this in and of itself sets it apart from all other Rolex models, because Rolex doesn’t do rectangular shaped faces. Introduced in 1928, the Prince had a rectangular movement, which allowed the seconds subdial to sit below the hours and minute dial. This watch was nicknames the “Doctors” or “Nurses” watch.
Basic Reference Numbers:
Ref. 1343 – Prince Classic
Ref. 971 – Prince Brancard (Flared sides at the case)
Ref. 1527 – Railway Prince (Steel Model)
Ref. 3362 – Wedge shaped Case
Ref. 3937 – Custom Made Dial ¼ Century Club instead of Arabic Numerals
The Rolex Cellini Quartz comes in both a men’s and a women’s size and is hand wound. These watches all come with a sapphire crystal and either a bracelet or leather strap. The reference numbers are 6621 and 6623.
The Rolex Cellini Cellissima features white gold watches with precision quartz movement that are available in round or tonneau-shape case designs with diamond bezels, diamond lugs or both. The Rolex Cellissima is also available with either a white gold bracelet or leather strap with deployment buckle.

Ref. 6693 – Tonneau Shape with diamond lugs
Ref. 5241 – Round Shape
The Cellini Danaos is luxury and elegance defined. Like all Cellini watches, this watch is hand wound with sapphire crystal, but it is thin and comes with just a leather strap. There are various faces and the shape of the face goes from round to just slightly off-round. It’s a great “gentleman’s” watch.

Ref. 4243 – Deployment Clasp
The Rolex Cellini Cestello is subtle with round face that is surrounded by a square case. This watch comes in a bracelet, leather band, men’s and women’s and every which but loose and all kinds of fabulous. This watch has no date function, but you can have diamond markers and a mother of pearl dial if your heart desires.
