Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are engaged- AGAIN! It’s round two for this Hollywood elite couple, and you won’t believe the stunning ring Ben proposed with.
She’s been teasing us all with glimpses of her ultra rare green diamond. We’re sharing all the details on today’s special celebrity engagement style edition.
The Couple: Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck
This couple needs no introduction. But you may not remember the ‘Bennifer’ era back in 2002 when they first got together.
Ben and Jennifer met in 2001 while filming the box office flop, Gigli. While the film was a failure, the romance kindled on set was a success. The story unfolds over the next 20 years:
- 2002: Ben proposed with a 6.1-carat pink diamond ring. Jennifer says ‘yes.’
- 2003: The wedding is called off and the couple splits shortly after.
- 2004: Jennifer marries Marc Anthony, with whom she shares twins Max and Emme.
- 2005: Ben marries Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares three children: Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel.
- 2014: Jennifer and Marc get divorced
- 2015: Ben and Jennifer Garner get divorce.
- 2021: Jennifer Lopez and fiancé Alex Rodriguez called off the marriage, and Ben split with girlfriend, Ana De Armas.
- 2022: Jennifer and Ben are together again!
Jennifer shard with People magazine that this romance is completely different from the original version. She stated:
“We’re older now, we’re smarter, we have more experience, we’re at different places in our lives, we have kids now, and we have to be very conscious of those things. We’re so protective because it is such a beautiful time for all of us.”
The Engagement Story
Nor Jennifer or Ben have released many details on the proposal. We can gather that a lot of effort and planning went into the occasion, especially the ring Ben chose.
We expect the couple to remain pretty private this time around, since that was a major reason for their first break up. In a statement released after postponing the wedding, Jennifer blamed the media attention:
“Due to the excessive media attention surrounding our wedding, we have decided to postpone the date,” it read. “When we found ourselves seriously contemplating hiring three separate ‘decoy brides’ at three different locations, we realized that something was awry. We began to feel that the spirit of what should have been the happiest day of our lives could be compromised. We felt what should have been a joyful and sacred day could be spoiled for us, our families, and our friends.”
The Ring
Jennifer has left us all to speculate on the exact details of the ring, but we have a general idea from her social media pics and photos.
The ring features an estimated 8.5 carat green gemstone flanked by two trapezoid shaped white diamonds.
Is the green stone an ultra rare, extremely precious diamond?
If it’s in fact a green diamond, the ring could be worth up to $10 million according to diamond experts. Gemstone expert Apeksha Kothar shared her thoughts with PageSix recently.
She states “This fancy shade occurs in less than 0.1% of natural diamonds. Green diamonds are much rarer than white diamonds — and the particular chemical formation that makes diamonds green tends to make it hard to find a fit for an engagement ring in sizes above 1 carat.”
Another gemologist with The Clear Cut gives a bit more detail. “Green diamonds get their color by being exposed to radioactive material, such as uranium, during their formation in the earth. The longer the diamond is exposed to radioactivity, the greener it will be.”
Green holds special meaning for Jennifer.
She shared in her ‘On the JLO’ newsletter that the color green is a significant color in her life. From jewelry, artwork, and even fashion (calling to memory the very revealing Versace silk chiffon piece she wore to the 42nd Grammy Awards)- she says green is her lucky color.
She also said, “I’ve realized there are many moments in my life where amazing things happened when I was wearing green.”
Final Thoughts
Diamond trends were already heading toward unconventional styles, and Jennifer’s green version will surely add more gasoline to the fire. Many couples are looking for unique, alternative designs to better match their individuality, rather than settling for a traditional look.
We’re excited, along with the rest of the world, about the Ben and Jen reunion. But as far a ceremony? We bet it will be a private affair including only very close friends and family, out of the public eye.
