Jeezy and Jeannie Mai weren’t able to travel to Vietnam in April like they’d planned, but they still have one major reason to celebrate mid pandemic! Jeezy popped the question in an ultra creative way!

The Couple: Jeezy and Jeannie Mai
Jeannie Mai
Mai is an Emmy award winning co-host of the daytime talk show The Real. The all female panel style talkshow focuses on real life experiences, with hosts often getting candid about their personal lives.
Her career started out in the makeup industry. Her role as a MAC makeup artist eventually led to working with celebrities and traveling world wide.
Mai’s celebrity makeup stylist status led her to work on national networks. She began fashion consulting, as well as hosting tv segments as well.
The Real is currently in it’s 6th season.
Jeezy
Jeezy, previously known as Lil J and later Young Jeezy, is a famous award winning, rapper. Over the years, he’s collaborated with Usher, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Rihanna and many more.
He grew up around Atlanta, and released his first independent album in 2001. In 2004 he signed with Def Jam Records, and has since released multiple top albums with several Billboard top 100 hits.
Jeezy and Jeannie May first met on the set of The Real and began quietly dating in 2018. Rumors swirled after they appeared in a photo on actress Malika Haqq’s Instagram account.
The couple made their first public appearance in April 2019 at Jeezy’s inaugural SnoBall Gala in Atlanta, an event to raise money for his local non-profit Street Dreamz.
Mia spent Thanksgiving with Jeezy and his extended family in Atlanta. You know it was getting serious at that point.
Then on March 27th of this year, Jeezy popped the question. But not how he had originally planned it.
The Quarantine Proposal
The pandemic forced alternative celebrations across the world, with most countries on strict lockdown to decrease spread of the Coronavirus.
Weddings and baby showers were celebrated via Zoom. Famous chefs held virtual cooking classes. Tour companies hosted online travel experiences. But Jeezy created his own non-travel memories.
Jeezy had planned to propose in Vietnam, a trip that was supposed to happen in April, but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
That didn’t stop the couple from getting engaged, according to Mai’s media representative. Instead, she shared with PEOPLE that Jeezy planned a romantic quarantine date night in.
He decked out his Los Angeles home with Vietnamese decor and food. Details on how exactly Jeezy proposed haven’t been released just yet. We imagine it being just as creative as his quarantine date-night in idea.
The Ring
PEOPLE had the exclusive opportunity to photograph Mai’s massive rock! The custom ring is ultra unique, while featuring at least one major top engagement ring trend from the past few years.
Even still, it brings a nice contrast to the thin banded, alternative gemstone engagement rings we’ve seen recently.
Jewelry experts believe the ring to showcase a 4-5 carat Marquise cut diamond, set in a thicker pave diamond setting. The band features a tiny emerald, a detail we’re sure has special significance.
The ring is estimated to be worth $150,000 according to sources.
Happily Ever After
No wedding date or plans have been announced just yet, but it’s sure to be a beautiful celebration.
As to future plans for the couple? The both look forward to serving and giving back together. In fact Mai shared that Jeezy’s philanthropic spirit was one of his most attractive traits.
She told PEOPLE, “Immediately that was a magnetic attraction. We are very attracted to each other’s passions to serve. So because we have a mutual joy of having purpose, we’re going to find a way to do that together.”
