IWC – The Da Vinci Family Collection
IWC is one of the worlds finest watch manufactures, headquartered in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. Since 1868, IWC has been creating masterpieces that combine precision engineering and stunning design. When you see these watches in person, you can see that perfection in the details. These watches stand-alone and are visually distinctive among their counterparts.
IWC has several famous watch collections, but for this blog, I will only focus on The Da Vinci Family. Inspired by the legendary Leonardo Da Vinci, these watches were designed to capture his lifelong passion for the precise measurement of time.
There are four models in this collection. Let’s take a deeper look at each one.
Da Vinci Automatic (Reference 4523)

The Da Vinci Automatic has a 30130-calibre automatic movement. Designed for any occasion, the case on this model measures at 35.6 x 42.5 mm, making it a fantastic every-day watch.

Featuring a wider watch case, the Da Vinci Chronograph measures in at 43.1 x 51 mm. Equipped with a 89360 calibre, this model allows for stopped times that exceed a minute to be read off easily on the subdial. This model also features a small hacking seconds and date display on the bottom of the watch face.

As the premier model, The Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month has digital displays for both the date, and for the first time, the numerical month. This model is so advanced it will even count the leap years that pass.

Kurt Klaus is a living legend in the watch industry. Working at IWC for more than 50 years, he is credited as the designer of the crown-operated perpetual calendar system, found in several IWC collections. As a tribute to the infamous designer and inventor, the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Edition Kurt Klaus features a perpetual moon phase, Klaus’ own signature, and his portrait on the back. This is a must have for the advanced watch collector.
