1680 Rolex SubmarinerI recently got a 1680 Rolex Submariner that has a serial number that puts it as being produced in 1973.  I have been on the lookout for this beauty for a long time.  These are the reasons why I love my new Rolex Submariner.

Why I Love My 1680 Rolex Submariner

  • The first model to feature the date window at the 3 o’clock position
  • The new sapphire crystal, quickset date, and the screw link oyster fliplock bracelet
  • The markers are often called “nipple” style
  • The depth ratings were meters first on earlier dials then feet first a few years later
  • Box folding links on the bracelet

How to Set and Wind a Rolex Submariner

Here are some helpful instructions on how to properly set and wind your Rolex Submariner. If you are new to the Rolex family, the “crown” is the dial on the right hand side of the watch face.

Rolex Submariner – No Date

Flush- The crown is fully screwed-down. The watch is completely sealed and the movement protected.

Pulled Out Once (1st Position) For Manual Winding- Unscrew the crown counterclockwise until it pops out from the side (the winding position). Once there, begin to wind the crown clockwise about 25-30 times. This is only required if you have not worn the watch for 1-2 days.

Pulled Out Twice (2nd Position) For the Time– Unscrew the crown counterclockwise until it pops out from the side (the winding position). Slightly tug on the crown to reach the 2nd extended position. To set the time, wind the crown clockwise or counterclockwise until you reach the appropriate time. When completed, lightly push and screw the crown tightly back into place.
