Engagement season is just around the corner, but Hilary Duff and Matthew Koma didn’t want to wait. They were engaged back in May, and she’s been showing off her trendy engagement bling all summer long.

The Couple
Hilary Duff was a Disney Channel teen star turned singer/songwriter. Most recently she plays Kelsey Peters on the TV Land comedy-drama series Younger.
Matthew Koma is also a singer and songwriter, and he wrote a few songs on one of Duff’s albums in 2015. They started dating not too long after, but it was an ‘on again, off again’ relationship until 2017.
Last year, the couple welcomed a baby girl in October. They’ve definitely become a tightly knit family. Duff and Koma’s social media pages are filled with family photos, along with Duff’s younger son from her first marriage.
The Engagement Story
We’ve written about some pretty epic proposals, like Kanye renting out a baseball stadium for the night and proposing to Kim on the diamond. Or how about Tom Brady popping the question en route to Boston on a private jet filled with four dozen white roses.
And then there’s the low key proposals like Prince Harry over a chicken dinner, or Matthew Koma on a random Tuesday in the park. Duff sat down with The Talk and shared the sweet story earlier this year.
She came home from work one day and Koma talked her into going for a walk in the park in her sweats. He presented her a custom made, illustrated book of their love story (to share with the kids when they get older). Once she reached the end of the book, there was a ring hidden in a secret compartment.
Koma got down on one knee and completely went blank. Duff laughed that he said ‘I forgot everything I’m supposed to say, but you’re my best friend.’
She said yes! Although they aren’t rushing into anything, she says they are really happy and he’s an amazing, supportive dad.
The Ring
Hilary posted the engagement news on her Instagram account, and fans got a good look at the ring. Jewelry experts report the ring to be a cushion cut diamond in a white gold or platinum split shank solitaire setting.
The center diamond appears to be between three to four carats, and worth anywhere from $40,000 and $80,000. We don’t have any info on where the ring was purchased or who designed it. It’s a beautiful ring, and we’ve had many requests for similar versions over the years.
