We have all the details on Heather Rae Young’s engagement ring from new fiancé Tarek El Moussa! His quarantine proposal is pretty epic too!
Once a month, we like to highlight a celebrity engagement story and ‘ooh and ahhh’ at the ring. Young’s engagement ring is on trend with what we’ve seen over the last few years. It’s a flawless, emerald cut diamond, which has dramatically increased in popularity recently.
Other notable celebs receiving emerald cut engagement rings in 2020 include Demi Lovato (even though the engagement didn’t last), Nikki Bella, and Chef Alex Guarnaschelli. But we can’t fail to mention the huge emerald cut sparkler Jennifer Lopez received from A-Rod last year.
Before we dish out all we know about Heather Rae Young’s engagement ring, let’s meet the featured couple.
The Couple
So who is this celebrity couple? If you’re obsessed with real estate reality TV, you probably already know.
Heather Rae Young
Young is a Los Angeles associate for The Oppenheim Group, a real estate agency for affluent buyers in the area. The Netflix series, Selling Sunset features Young and fellow agents selling the luxe life to high profile buyers.
Before the fame of reality tv in luxury real estate, Young had appeared in several movies and other television shows, like ‘Til Death and Comedy Bang! Bang!
She’s also a model, since the age of 18. She’s been a Playboy Playmate in her early 20’s, and has worked on campaigns with Carrie Amber lingerie and DOS Eyewear to name a few.
Tarek El Moussa
El Moussa obtained his real estate license at 21 and rose through the ranks in Orange County, California selling multi-million dollar mansions. After the housing market crashed, he pivoted to flipping run-down properties.
Now he flips homes with his partner (and ex wife Christina Anstead) on HGTV’s Flip or Flop and he offers tips for amateur flippers on Flipping 101.
Flip or Flop is currently in its 9th season. Tarek and Christina split in December of 2016, but still co-parent two kids and remain professional flippers together.
How Tarek and Heather Met
The couple was first seen canoodling on a yacht in Redondo Beach, California back in July of 2019. Sources say they had actually met a few months prior, but Heather originally turned down Tarek because she had a boyfriend at the time.
Fast forward to their second meeting, and it’s been a whirl wind romance since. They make the relationship Instagram official in August of 2019, followed by Tarek gifting Young a new Ferrari for her birthday, family vacations, and eventually moving in together around January 2020.
After quarantining together for months, Tarek popped the question in July. For a guy that gifts Ferraris for birthdays, can you imagine the proposal?
The Engagement Story
You can actually watch the entire proposal that aired on the October 8th episode of HGTV’s Flipping 101 With Tarek El Moussa. It captures every single step of the process, from shopping for the ring, to telling his two kids, and the whole day he planned leading up to the big question.
Tarek whisked Young away to one of their favorite places–Catalina Island– for the day to celebrate their one year anniversary. He took her off roading, planned a spa day, and brought out her glam squad.
For the proposal at a private spot on the beach, he created a walkway with candles and rose petals where he waited for her to arrive. Heather walked down to meet him, where he read a card she had given him on his 38th birthday but had asked him to save until their one-year anniversary. He then dropped down to one knee and proposed!
Of course, she said yes and the two celebrated with a romantic dinner overlooking the ocean.
Heather Rae Young’s Engagement Ring
Now, about that gorgeous ring! First of all, Tarek designed it himself. He worked with the Los Angeles-based concierge jewelry designer Benny Hayoun of Benny and the Gems to bring it to life.
The stunning but simplistic engagement ring features a flawless, 8 carat emerald cut diamond. The diamond sits on a gold band, and matches the other jewelry Tarek has given her throughout their relationship.
Tarek shared how difficult finding the perfect diamond was with with E! News. After flying in diamonds from all over the world, he finally found the perfect one from Europe.
The ring is perfection as is, but Heather plans to add a few more elements to the basic design. Tarek stated “Right now, I just got her the main stone, but what I want to do is design the rest of the ring together.” He said “I provide the stone, and now we actually build the ring.”
Wedding Plans
As for the wedding? The couple plans to wait until it’s safe to get married; they want a proper wedding post quarantine. And Young has already found her wedding dress!
Filming the wedding for an HGTV debut is also on the table, but they haven’t officially decided. Either way, you know it’s going to be an over-the-top event and we can’t wait to hear more!
