[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Each year it seems as if we reach Thanksgiving and the end of the year faster and faster. I can’t believe it is almost 2013. The years have flown by. I’m 60 years old and have worked for over half my life in the jewelry business in some fashion or another.
I am a father and a husband. A brother and a son. A business owner and a business partner. A friend and a foe. I am many things to many people and through it all I have watched my life whiz by me in the blink of an eye.
It wasn’t so long ago that I wanted life to rush along so I could grow up and be on my own. Now, I am there, watching my daughter go off to college on her own for the first time and feeling the pang of being an empty nester, as the quiet of the house settles around my wife and I and we try to settle into this new phase of our lives.
It’s time to slow down. After all, we spend our lives working and running from place to place and job to home and back again so we can give ourselves and our families the best lives we possibly can. So we can take trips and buy cars and live a comfortable life. We eat out when we want, we get to golf and our home is nicely decorated. We have not wanted for anything since we first started our journey together over 30 years ago.
And, I give thanks that we have what we have. I am grateful for having had the luck that I have had in my life and my business to be able to afford to have had the life I have had. But, now life is whizzing by me at warp speed, and I am missing things. I want to take a step back and enjoy what I have worked so hard to obtain.
I want to enjoy this time with my wife. I want to enjoy this time with my friends. I want to sit on my porch and watch the sun set and sometimes rise. I want to smell the wet dew on the green as I tee up and I want to feel the wind on my face as I drive through the countryside.
And, when I walk into my office, I want to thank everyone who has worked so tirelessly for me and with me to allow me to have the life that I have today. How lucky I am to be surrounded by the people that I am surrounded with. I marvel that this is the life that I am blessed with.
Take this time of year to look around you and realize that it is those people around you that make your life what it is and give thanks for them. Give thanks that you are blessed with people you love, a job that sustains you, a life that maintains you, a family that is there for you and enough time to enjoy it all before it’s too late.
Happy Thanksgiving from the Jonathan’s Fine Jewelers family to your family.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
