We’ve reached peak proposal season, which according to experts begins in late November and runs through February. It’s not too late to buy a ring if you’ve been thinking about popping the question this winter. Not sure where to start? This post will walk you through how to choose the engagement ring styles best suited for her.
How to Choose the Perfect Engagement Ring Style
Now, we have to start this post with a disclaimer – it never hurts to ask women what type of ring that they’ve always wanted. You’d probably be surprised with how quickly they’ll answer (and how many details they can give as well).
However, not every guy is comfortable questioning their girlfriend about the ring for the sake of keeping the proposal a complete surprise.
That’s why you MUST pay attention to details.
1. Figure out what her favorite fashion styles are.
Most women favor one of the categories below when it comes to their sense of fashion:
- Clean and classic chic
- Bright, bold, one-of-a-kind looks
- Vintage inspired
- Outdoor/Active wear
Maybe it’s a combination of several looks, but take note of what she’s most comfortable in and the items she constantly reaches for.
2. Check out her Pinterest boards.
From recipes, decorating tips, home good trends, to fashion ideas– every single female we know utilizes Pinterest to gather ideas. She more than likely has saved a jewelry item or two, and heck maybe even her dream ring.
Find out her username and do a little online stalking.
3. What elements are most important to her?
It’s a good idea to factor in sentimental elements when ring shopping. Birthstones, favorite colors, family heirlooms, and precious metal types are all important factors to consider when buying an engagement ring or designing a custom look.
When you pair her favorite styles and elements with a timeless ring design, there’s no way to go wrong.
Choosing a Timeless Engagement Ring Style
Because Jonathan’s has been in business for over 25 years, we have seen engagement ring styles come and go. We believe that the best way to choose an engagement ring that she will love forever is to find designs that are continually popular, and then add a personalized twist to it.
An engagement ring is as personal of a gift as you will ever purchase, and our custom creation process allows customers to take a common style and make it incredible.
There is no custom design off limits. Our in house professionals can create any style you can dream up. We carry the largest loose diamond inventory in Texas, which means you get exactly what you’re looking for at a lower price point. It’s a win-win.
Below you’ll see some of the most popular customized engagement ring styles we’ve created for clients.
Solitaire
Easily the most worn engagement ring style, solitaire engagement rings are essentially the standard. The solitaire stone makes a classic statement, and doesn’t have any accent diamonds to distract from the main stone.
This diamond style is perfect those that prefer a traditional and classic ring.
Jonathan’s recommends that you choose a high quality stone that packs a “wow” factor. Round and princess cut diamonds are by far the most common cut for solitaires.
Halo
Halo rings have surged in popularity over the last few years because of their ability to stretch a budget. The halo ring is a throwback to the art deco style that took place from the 1920’s to the beginning of World War II.
Halo designs feature a center stone surrounded by several smaller accent stones. The beauty of this engagement ring style is that it can make the main stone look up to a half carat larger!
In addition to the single halo, we often create a double halo with two layers of smaller diamonds surrounding the center stone. Cushion cut or round brilliant diamonds work well with the halo design.
The halo design is great for future brides that love a classic ring with a touch of vintage.
Three Stone Ring
A style with multiple meanings, the three stone ring can represent past-present-future, the holy-trinity, or friendship-love-fidelity! Similar to a halo, the three stone engagement ring style can help stretch your budget by making the overall visual impact of the ring larger.
The three stone ring regained popularity earlier when Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle last year. It’s a classic choice for a bride-to-be.
Rose Gold
You’ve probably seen rose gold all over the place in recent years. Rose gold has become a mainstream fashion trend that’s found in everything from fine watches to men’s wedding bands.
But what’s it made of exactly? Like white gold, rose gold is created by mixing two metals. For example, 18k white gold is a combination of roughly 75% yellow gold and 25% nickel. Conversely, 18k rose gold is a mixture of 75% yellow gold with 25% copper. Rose gold also carries the added benefit of being a hypo-allergenic metal similar to palladium or platinum.
Rose gold gives a unique twist to any ring style, and would be a great choice for someone who isn’t afraid of nontraditional styles.
Pavé
The word pavé is French for “paved”, which perfectly described the arrangement of the accent diamonds that move up the side of a pavé ring. Generally, the small accent diamonds are arranged in a three-row cobblestone pattern.
Another similar option for this style is micro-pavé, which incorporates smaller diamonds than the normal pavé setting. You can see both examples of Pavé in the picture above and micro-pavé in our rose-gold ring example.
The pavé ring style is great fit for those that love big, bold patterns!
Ultra Custom Engagement Ring Styles
Like we said before, nothing is off limits for our jewelry design experts. We’ve seen a shift away from traditional styles over the past decade to more customized looks. Women prefer styles that match their personalities and lifestyles, and that showcase their uniqueness.
