Custom Wedding Ring Set
At Jonathan’s Fine Jewelers we specialize in buying and selling estate jewelry, watches, loose diamonds or any other type of fine jewelry. However, one of our favorite services that we provide is creating a custom diamond wedding ring set from scratch for our customers. While we service all price ranges, we have a few great tips that can get you a diamond wedding ring set with better quality and lower prices than a traditional box store while staying within your budget. We believe that creating a custom diamond wedding ring set is THE best way to get a great piece of jewelry and save money at the same time!
Check out our tips on finding an affordable diamond wedding ring set:
Start with the budget in mind:
You’ve heard the old adage before – “You should spend 3 months salary on an engagement ring”.
Honestly, we feel that this couldn’t be further from the truth! You need to create a budget for your diamond wedding ring set that you will feel comfortable with and that won’t stretch your finances too thin. This may be one of the most important purchases of your life, and you can easily avoid buyers remorse by keeping the budget well within your means. Remember; your engagement and wedding may produce several unexpected expenses, and saving money on your diamond wedding ring set can help offset those costs down the road.
Before your appointment with one of our diamond experts on staff we generally ask for a rough estimate of your low and high budget. If you aren’t exactly sure, don’t worry. We can help guide you through the process during our meeting, and we won’t try to push you towards a stone at the top of your budget like many other jewelry stores. Our goal is to create lasting customer relationships, and being as honest and transparent as we can has worked very well for the past 25 years.
Having a good idea of how much you want to spend helps us pick out several diamonds from our inventory that suit your needs. The process starts with picking out a loose stone and creating your diamond wedding ring set around the main stone. Keep reading for more money saving tips!
Save money on the diamond:
Our diamond experts will show you any loose stone that you would like to see, even if it is outside of your original budget. Because Jonathan’s specializes in estate jewelry, you will find that many of our loose stones are significantly discounted compared to a box store or online price for a similar stone. We are able to find diamonds for less, and we directly pass those savings on to our customers.
Our customers LOVE our design process because we let you inspect the stones with any of the tools at our disposal (We can even teach you to use a diamond loop!). We will also share several tips during your appointment on finding a cost effective diamond that will wow your future bride.
Here are just a few that could save you quite a bit of money:
Pick a smaller stone: Often times, customers come in with a certain carat size in mind for their center stone. One money saving trick is to pick a stone that is slightly smaller. 1 carat diamonds are very popular, but a .96 stone may look exactly the same and yield a lower price.
Be open to different levels of clarity: This is one of the advantages of viewing several different diamonds in our showroom. You may have your heart on a VVS1 diamond, but a VS1 or VS2 be much more cost effective. Most imperfections are not visible to the naked eye, and will not have any effect on the “look” of your diamond. Picking a slightly lower level of clarity could keep a good amount of money in your pocket.
Give yourself options with the cut: Diamonds that boast a specialty cut such as ideal and Hearts and Arrows are significantly more expensive than a diamond with lesser cut, but may look the same to the normal viewer. Most of the higher price is due to higher labor and acquisition costs for diamond buyers like us. Check out our post on some of our diamonds blogs here for more info.
Don’t forget the tax (seriously):
This one seems silly, but it is essential that you include sales tax in your budget. We will always show you an itemized description before you decide on a design. Unfortunately, we see a surprised look from time to time when the tax is added on to the final total. Factor the tax into your purchase price from the beginning and you won’t have any surprises in the process.
