We’re ramping up for all the new engagement stories to unfold as wedding season winds down. Custom made ring designs have been keeping us busy here at Jonathan’s, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of so many upcoming proposals.
It’s been a while since we shared a juicy celebrity engagement story. To remedy that, here’s the not so low-key details of Chris Zylka’a proposal to hotel heiress Paris Hilton.
Let’s just say there’s almost enough ice involved to sink the Titanic in round two.
THE COUPLE
Paris Hilton is a household name, but who is actor-model Chris Zylka? Chris’ career began with a guest appearance on 90210, and he’s been in several TV roles and movies since. He portrayed Flash Thompson in the 2012 Spider-Man reboot.
Their story begins at an Oscar party eight years ago when the couple met for the first time at the Old Hollywood-esque Chateau Marmont hotel. Although they both acknowledge a spark was felt, each went on to date others throughout the years while remaining harmlessly flirtatious.
Five years later after several failed relationships (and a few engagements) later, Chris and Paris reconnect at Miami’s Art Basel. Paris recalls first date memories for Galore Magazine, “He came over to my house. We stayed up all night talking and getting to know each other. When we had our first kiss, I felt that electric feeling and I knew there was something special about him.”
The couple made it Instagram official in February 2017.
THE ENGAGEMENT STORY
Just after the 2018 New Year Paris announced she and Chris were engaged. His planning was on point- cozy holiday vibes, a white Christmas, a giNORMOUS rock, and a ski date atop the Aspens in Colorado where he dropped to one knee right there in his ski pants.
Paris announced the news in an Instagram post on January 2nd. She called Chris her…. “best friend & soulmate. Perfect for me in every way. So dedicated, loyal, loving & kindhearted.” And let’s not forget traditional. Chris was cited in an interview saying he was most nervous about asking Paris’ dad for her hand in marriage.
The couple initially discussed a November wedding, but ultimately decided to push it back to the spring of 2019 due to busy schedules.
THE RING
Now- what you’ve all been waiting for. Chris proposed with a 20-carat pear shaped diamond, set on a platinum split shank halo band featuring two more carats. Zylka had the ring custom designed by jeweler Michael Greene and completed in just two days.

The 20-carat diamond ring is estimated to be worth around $2 million. Quite the opposite of Paris’ ‘The Simple Life’ from the early 2000’s, eh?
Paris accidentally lost her engagement ring just a few months after getting engaged while partying in a Miami nightclub. Luckily her security team found the ‘ice’ in a literal bucket of ice at another VIP table nearby. It reportedly was flung off her finger during some serious dancing in the early morning hours.
Paris has mentioned the possibility of three weddings. Why not? She had five parties for her 21st birthday, so it’s only natural to celebrate grand occasions multiple times! We’ll be looking forward to how it plays out in 2019.
