The Couple: Who is Nikki Bella and Artem Chigvintsev?
Nikki Bella
You may know Nikki Bella if you’re a fan of Smackdown…or John Cena. She’s a recently retired WWE professional wrestler, and was previously engaged to John Cena. However, they called off the engagement and wedding in late 2018.
Bella’s wrestling career started in 2007, after several modeling, acting, and promotional gigs. She competed on Dancing With the Stars in 2017, which is how she actually met her husband to be!
Artem Chigvintsev
Chigvintsev is a professional European dancer. He moved to the U.S. nearly 20 years ago and began dancing with champion ballroom dancer Giselle Peacock.
He had stints on So You Think You can Dance, a British series called Strictly Come Dancing, and even Broadway.
Artem landed a spot on Dancing with the Stars in 2014 as a member of the Dance Troupe, and was promoted to a professional dancer the next season.
Nikki Bella was paired with Artem when she appeared on the show in 2017, where they finished in 7th place. There must have been a mutual attraction, because they reconnected shortly after Bella and John Cena’s engagement ended.
In March 2019, Bella went public with their romance on Instagram, and announced they were a couple on her podcast a few months later.
By December, she was meeting his parents and secretly getting engaged!
The Proposal
Some engagements become elaborate affairs, like Kim and Kanye’s. Others are way more intimate, like Prince Harry proposing to Meghan Markle as they cooked dinner.
All we know about this proposal is that it happened on a romantic November vacation in France. The couple has kept this part of their story very secret, like so many other couples do.
Secret or not, that’s a pretty sweet way to get engaged in our opinion!
Bella finally announced the engagement on Instagram in January to her 9 million followers, with the caption:
“Excited for 2020 and the next decade with you @theartemc ❤️ “I said yes in France in November! We have been trying to keep it a secret but really wanted to share our excitement for the New Year!”
Now let’s dissect all the details on that bling!
The Ring
Artem Chigvintsev has classic taste, based on his ring of choice. The ring he proposed with features a gorgeous emerald cut diamond ring. Emerald cut diamonds, and a few other fancy cut diamonds are very popular right now.
Emerald cut diamonds and colored gemstones have been blowing up over the past few years. It’s a cut that is flattering and elegant looking on most everyone. Major celebs like Jennifer Lopez and Amal Clooney both wear rings with absolutely stunning emerald cut diamonds.

This particular diamond looks to be about 2- 2.5 carats accented with tapered baguette diamonds and set on a white gold or platinum band. The design is simply elegant, which helps showcase the center diamond.
We don’t know who exactly designed the ring, but Nikki did say it was a “Harry Winston” classic style on her Youtube channel. Jewelry experts estimate it’s retail value between $20,000-$40,000.
Final Thoughts
This cut is one of our all time favorites. It’s feels both classic and uniquely modern at the same time, making it a perfect fit for today’s brides.
Emerald cut diamonds produce a hall-of-mirrors effect, instead of the sparkle you get with brilliant cut diamonds. The long lines and dramatic flashes of light give the emerald cut an elegant appeal.
