It’s been a minute since we’ve reviewed a Rolex watch, so today we’re looking at the ultimate traveler’s watch- the Sky-Dweller, particularly reference no. 326935.
The Rolex Sky-Dweller represents prestige and class, while remaining ultra-functional. The Everose gold on this style demands attention and we love the classic statement it makes. If you’re lucky enough to wrap this around your wrist, you’ll know you’ve arrived.
Let’s take a closer look!
SKY-DWELLER HISTORY
One of Rolex’s most innovative styles yet, the Sky-Dweller MADE history when it was released just six years ago.
The Sky-Dweller was launched in 2012 specifically for global travelers and featured several never before seen features and complications.
The first models were only available in coveted precious metals- 18-carat yellow gold, white gold, and Everose gold. Last year, Rolex released stainless steel and Rolestor (a combination of stainless steel and white or yellow gold) versions for more approachable price tags around $14,400.
FUNCTIONS
Dual time zone
One of the key Sky-Dweller functions is the ability to read time in two different zones. Local time is indicated by the conventional center hour, minute and seconds hands. Travelers can read their home base reference time on a rotating off-center disc. A fixed inverted red triangle points to the wearer’s chosen reference time.
The date display is linked to local time and occurs within a few milliseconds at midnight, so you’ll always know the current date no matter how far you journey away.
Annual Calendar
A white or deep red hue seen in one of the twelve windows around the dial indicates the current month. This advanced complication ensures wearers only adjust the date once per year- March 1 since February has either 28 or 29 days.
Simple adjustments
Although sophisticated technology can be seen throughout the Sky-Dweller, adjustments are made simple with the Ring Command bezel.
Setting the local or reference time and date is easy, and can be done in any order, forwards or backwards, without restriction. Each function is accessed using the rotatable Ring Command bezel
and adjusted with the winding crown, which has only one setting position.
FINAL THOUGHTS
If you’re enticed by luxurious, yet functional style, the Rolex Sky-Dweller is calling your name. Different dial options- white, dark rhodium or rose gold- help dress this model up or down.
Business travelers and pleasure-seeking nomads alike appreciate the dual time zone and intuitive date features, making any global excursion more efficient.
