The Holiday season is one of the best times for a marriage proposal! Whether it’s on Christmas Eve, Christmas morning, or on New Year’s, we always see a bump in engagements around this time of year. The holidays are a special time for everyone, and the added bonus of potentially having the entire family in town for a proposal is a big plus!
Don’t worry – proposing doesn’t have to be intimidating. Below are 6 steps you need to take to make the perfect holiday proposal.
Create the ring

Yes – create, not select. One of the most stressful parts of the engagement ring experience is finding a high quality ring that fits the style your future fiancé wants! That’s why we think you should create one from scratch.
With our design process, you can control the process from start to finish. We’ll start with a GIA loose diamond that fits the price and specifications you want, design the ring, and do all the casting and diamond setting in house!

Choose the perfect holiday proposal spot
If you want to make her engagement story truly unique, you’ll want to avoid the restaurants or sports venues. One of the strategies that we’ve found to work best is to select a place that’s special for both of you. Maybe it’s where you met, or even the location of your first kiss!
Just remember – you want her to have a story that is different from all of her friends. That means selecting a location that you know for sure wasn’t the spot any of her friends were engaged.
One of the unique advantages of being in Houston is that we have a wide variety of proposal locations. Whether you choose downtown, Midtown, or somewhere on the water, you really can’t go wrong. Another great thing about holiday proposals is that you can make sure your family is there to see it!
Iron out all of the moving parts
Our recommendation is that you keep everything as simple as possible. Most guys don’t factor in that they will be nervous when they pop the big question. You’ll want to make sure that there is as little thinking as possible, and try not to get too fancy!
Don’t be afraid to enlist your friends or family for help either, especially if you want the engagement on video or pictures to be taken afterward.
Ask her parents first
In a day and age where smaller gestures like this seem to have less meaning – talking to the family first is important. While you might not actually need their permission, there’s a good chance that her parents will appreciate you telling them your intentions first.
We can tell you from experience – it will be an emotional time for them and they will be excited! It also helps that they know ahead of time if you need to utilize them for any planning or to carry out the proposal.
Nail the proposal
You have the ring. You’ve found the perfect spot. You ironed out the details and even got the parents on board. Now it’s time to ask the question!
Remember, if you have been together for a significant amount of time she will definitely say yes. There’s no reason to stress! Try to keep the talking to a minimum if you think you’ll be too emotional, and don’t be afraid to practice (yes seriously) getting down on one knee and pulling the ring out before the big day.
Good luck on your holiday proposal!
