Rolex released four new 2020 Datejust 31 models, but they haven’t received as much press compared with the new Submariners or Sky-Dwellers.

These smaller, more feminine models showcase new colors and two bracelets options, along with several distinct features to accent any style preference. Not to be confused with Rolex’s Lady-Datejust model, the Datejust 31 models are still mostly aimed at its female audience.

We’ll take a closer look in a bit, but first a history lesson!

History of the Rolex Datejust

Rolex introduced the first Datejust in 1945 to commemorate its 40th anniversary. This Datejust was the world’s very first self-winding wristwatch to feature a date window that would automatically change over at midnight.

Therefore, the Datejust set the standard for today’s contemporary wrist watches. The date display is now a feature on most watches.

Unlike the Submariner, Daytona, or Sky-Dweller, the Datejust was designed for anyone. Not just a particular sport, lifestyle or genre of user like the other Rolex icons. The Datejust is a classic, reliable watch meant for anyone to wear at anytime.

It’s no surprise the Datejust collection is one of the oldest to remain in production today.

Now what’s new with the Rolex 2020 Datejust 31?

The Newly Released 2020 Datejust 31 Models

Rolex released four new Oyster Perpetual 2020 Datejust 31 models. They’re each featured in white Rolesor, a combination of Oystersteel and 18 ct white gold.

The Rolex Caliber 2236 with Syloxi hairspring powers each model. Rolex manufactures each movement in house. This particular one features a bidirectional self-winding mechanical movement via perpetual rotor.

The power reserve for each new Datejust 31 is approximately 55 hours.

These 2020 Datejust 31 models all have a few distinct features, which we’ll cover next.

Datejust 31 (REF. 278384 RBR)

Firstly and perhaps the most dazzling of the bunch! This new Datejust 31 model features a stunning aubergine dial with a sunburst finish. It also displays a diamond set bezel of 46 brilliant cut stones.

Its dial displays Roman numeral hour markers, with the six (VI) set with 11 diamonds. This small feature perfectly accents the accompanying diamond bezel.

Other features include:

Bracelet: Oyster
Metal: Rolesor
Retail Price: $16,050

Datejust 31 (REF. 278274)

2020 datejust 31 mint green

Next, we have the Datejust 31 with the mint green dial. However, Rolex’s version of mint green isn’t what you may imagine. It’s more of an Earthy, olive green tone instead of the traditional bright ‘minty’ green that comes to mind.

The mint green dial features simple baton, white gold hour markers.

Moreover, no matter what you call the green color, we think the sunburst dial looks especially elegant paired with its Oystersteel jubilee bracelet.

Other features:

Bracelet: Jubilee
Metal: Rolesor
Retail Price: $8,050

Datejust 31 (REF. 278274)- White

The next new 2020 Datejust 31 features a white lacquer dial fashioned with 18 carat white gold Roman numeral hour markers. In addition, a fluted bezel lends a classy look to the otherwise casual vibes.

This model is finished off with the three-link Oyster bracelet.

Other features:

Bracelet: Oyster
Metal: Rolesor
Retail Price: $7,800

Datejust 31 (REF. 278274)- Dark grey

Finally, there’s the dark grey Datejust 31. Specifically, the dial is a glossy dark grey with the sunray finish. Hour markers are 18 carat white gold batons instead of Roman numerals.

It also has been given the five-link Jubilee bracelet and a white gold fluted bezel.

Other features:

Bracelet: Jubilee
Metal: Rolesor
Retail Price: $8,050

Final Word on the 2020 Datejust 31 Models

Although these models have flown under the radar, they’re still versatile pieces that deserve a look. Mostly affordable, they offer styles for multiple tastes.

Do you fancy a conversation piece that stands out? The diamond encrusted bezel/aubergine dial combo Datejust has you covered. Want a more simple, yet sophisticated wrist watch to dress up or down? The new mint green dial is perfectly good option.

In summary, there’s something for everyone with the new 2020 Datejust 31 releases and they’re a great option to add to any Rolex collection.
